Team Spotlight: Laura Buchanan

As we head towards the end of 2023 I have taken some time to reflect on what has been a huge year of change for me.

Working within the same business for the last 15 years meant that when it came to choosing my next opportunity it couldn’t have been a bigger decision for me, however, choosing W&A ultimately felt very easy.

As a specialist recruiter in the non-qualified finance space for over two decades it was an exciting challenge for me to join a business that wasn’t currently operating in this space.

Having managed and led successful teams over the years I have always remained a hands-on recruiter for a number of reasons. I’m lucky as I love what I do and am very passionate about it. Partnering with clients and candidates over the years has led to friendships and great working relationships and it was clear from the start that the team at W&A held these same values.

My new role at W&A was to set up and establish the non-qualified and part-qualified finance market across the central belt. This was exciting for me as not only could I continue to work with the fantastic client base I have built over my career but I was now stepping into different locations and working with brand new clients that W&A have already built strong partnerships with. Hopefully a win-win scenario for us all.

For W&A's well established and loyal client base, this has been a huge hit as we now cover all aspects of finance and can be a one stop shop for any finance recruitment. The feedback from clients and candidates so far has far exceeded my expectations and I am thoroughly enjoying working with the team in driving this hugely successful business forward as we continue to navigate our way through challenging times.

I have been really lucky throughout my career to work with some great people so naturally there was some nervousness around getting to know my new colleagues. However, what can I say about my new team? Thankfully, I continue to be blessed as I have joined a business where I have never felt this much of a sense of teamwork and there is a real ‘family’ feel to the business. So far so good on that front.

Branching out into a new space was a big change for W&A and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. So as we move out of 2023 and look forward to the new year I am super excited to see what we can achieve together and I would certainly welcome the opportunity to have a discussion with anyone out there if you think I might be able to assist or would like to find our more about our new offering.
