Charity Cycle
25th Jun 2019
Our contracts/interim Associate Director Andrea Green will set off on her charity cycling challenge this Saturday evening in London.
She will take part in Ride the Night London 2019, which is an overnight charity cycling event to raise funds to fight breast, cervical and ovarian cancer.
Setting off late on Saturday night, this challenge will take her and a friend through a 100km route starting at Royal Windsor Racecourse, looping around through central London and back around to Windsor (for Scottish comparisons, the distance between Edinburgh and Dundee!)
Training for this event has been a cold and sometimes dark process through the Scottish Winter and Andrea informs us that most of her training has involved temperatures less than 10 degrees, sometimes through hailstones and an occasional bat or two.
We can confirm that the forecast for Saturday night/Sunday morning is looking to be a balmy 14 to 17 degrees in London during the cycle, so she can throw off a few layers.
In addition to this she will be swapping her hardy mountain bike for a svelte hired hybrid bike in London, which should stand her in good stead for getting around the route no problem, as long as she reads her Highway Code and watches out for traffic around Trafalgar Square (and potentially the nightclubs pouring out depositing some drunken revellers in her path).
When asked about her final week’s training process she said it was going well, a few people have asked her about tapering (‘not too sure what that is’) but is enjoying the carb loading immensely.
If you would like to donate to this fantastic cause to fight against cancer (Ovarian Cancer Action, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, Breast Cancer Care) Andrea would be absolutely delighted for you to visit her fundraising page:
